Do Probiotics Help With Constipation? What the Evidence Means
Some probiotic studies report improvements in stool frequency or transit-related outcomes, but results vary substantially across strains and studies. “Probiotics help constipation” is too broad to be a reliable buying rule.

What meta-analysis suggests
A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials reported an increase in weekly stool frequency overall, while also identifying substantial heterogeneity and publication bias. That means the average result should not be treated as a guarantee for every product or person.
Strain specificity
Different probiotic strains can behave differently. Look for full strain identification rather than assuming all Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium products are interchangeable.
How to shop more intelligently
Check strain names, CFU claim timing, storage instructions and whether the studied outcome matches your goal. A huge total CFU number is not a substitute for relevant evidence.
